Nuclear
Nuclear is an established part of the UK energy industry. The UK has 19 nuclear reactors on 10 sites generating 19% of UK electricity compared with 36% from gas and 38% from coal. However, this has fallen from the peak of 26% of UK electricity in 1997, and the amount of electricity generated from Nuclear power will continue to fall for the next 10 years as many of the UK’s nuclear reactors reach the end of their lives.
However in 2008, the UK Government gave the go-ahead for the construction of a new generation of nuclear power plants, funded by private industry. These new plants provide a welcome boost to the Industry and are scheduled to be on stream by 2020.
As well as the jobs to be created by the new plant projects, decommissioning of the older power plants involves the use of skilled engineers and semi-skilled technicians. SRG has been involved in recruiting candidates for the Nuclear Industry since 1996.
