The annual IChemE Awards programme encourages, celebrates and rewards innovation and excellence. The awards aim to recognise and promote organisations who make an outstanding contribution to safety, the environment, sustainable development and other aspects of the process industries.

This year, SRG Engineering proudly sponsored one of these prestigious awards. BP Alternative Energy were the winners of THE SRG ENGINEERING AWARD FOR FOOD & DRINK INNOVATION 2008 for their entry entitled: "Safer, cleaner, more affordable cooking solutions for emerging consumers"

The award criteria looked for chemical engineering innovations, which optimise manufacturing operations and contribute towards providing safe, nutritious and affordable food to a global market. The key areas were:

• Waste Management: develop technologies that maximise use of viable waste streams
• Basic Production: develop precision agricultural technology and sustainable farming methods
• Diet & Health: advocate further improvements in product labelling with consumer education to influence choice
• Innovation: develop science on a broad front to meet the sector’s challenges with sustainability a vital consideration
• Delivery of Safe Products: transfer technology and share best practice by encouraging dialogue across supply chain
